Just arrived: flattering styles up to a G cup in sumptuous fabrics and a palette of deliciously vibrant shades, our new season collection is utterly irresistible and tantalisingly tempting. But, rather than take my word for it, I’ve invited a fabulous blogger – and friend of Miss B – Gemma Cartwright, to trial our newest autumn styles. Gemma is fashion, beauty and lifestyle writer; featured in Grazia, Vogue, Company, Cosmopolitan and more, her blog is an absolute must read. To quote Cosmo, Gemma is a ‘kick ass woman who’s changing the world’! So without further ado – Gemma, over to you…
“There’s nothing like a rich jewel tone to make you feel glamorous, and the latest drop of Autumn / Winter styles from Boux Avenue definitely delivers when it comes to colour. As a larger busted lady I’ve become obsessed with underwear and finding the right fit without sacrificing style, so I love that Boux Avenue offers a wide range of cup sizes across their range. I was lucky enough to test out three styles from the new collection – which is available now online and in stores – giving my lingerie drawer a luxurious makeover for the new season!
“First up came the Tamara balconette bra in a silky raspberry shade. This is a bestseller at Boux Avenue and it’s easy to see why – the balconette shape looks great and gives a really beautiful shape that has sex appeal without too much cleavage! The matching shorts are well cut, giving good coverage without looking frumpy or old-fashioned. When it comes to the bra, I absolutely love the shape at the front, with hidden seams and lace trim. I did find the cut to be pretty small due to the lack of stretch in the satin fabric, though. The cups were absolutely fine and I was surprised how well the style worked for me – I’ve always thought this shape is better for smaller cup sizes, but I’m an E cup and it felt great. However, I could have done with going up a band size for a bit more give (I’m between two sizes and erroneously chose the smaller one). Still, bras are like shoes and you need to wear them in, and I think after a couple of wears it will loosen up!
“Next, I tried the Samantha lace plunge in hot pink, which was a real departure for me. I own far too much lingerie, but only two plunge bras. I find the shape doesn’t work for me, and a narrow central gore often digs in and rubs, even when I’m wearing the right size. But we all need a style that will work for lower cut clothes, so I thought it was only fair I gave a Boux Avenue plunge style a go. As this is a full support style designed for larger busts, it seemed like the perfect choice. I was pleasantly surprised, particularly by how streamlined it looks – there’s a lot less fabric in the cups of a style like this, but it still felt supportive. The slightly padded shape gives lift at the sides and front, creating a nice rounded shape. Again, it’s mostly made from non-stretch satin so going up a band size will give you a bit more ease, but be careful you don’t lose that all-important support.
“Finally comes my favourite, the polka dot Georgia set. This is a little less ‘sexy’ than the satin and lace styles, but it’s still definitely a ‘show off’ bra. Due to the pleats and frills, it’s not one to wear under t-shirts or fitted clothes, but it’s great under looser stuff. I’m a sucker for a polka dot, so this girlie confection was always going to appeal to me! The pleated chiffon has bit more give than the satin styles so I found the fit to be much better all round in my preferred band size. It’s a classic balconette style with a high central gore, which is always my go-to, and the cute little ruched briefs are adorable. This is more of a youthful, flirty style compared to the more traditionally glamorous Samantha and Tamara, but don’t overlook it when you’re treating yourself – it’s really striking in real life!”
Lovely, thank you Gemma!
So, there you have it… Our Georgia polka dot set is certainly proving popular so far this season, but what do you think – are you a Tamara, Samantha or Georgia girl?
Lots of love,
Miss B x
